Overview

This notification allows you to submit a notice for one of the following three options:

  1. Induced Polarization Surveys Using Exposed Electrodes if you hold a valid mineral or coal exploration permit;
  2. Exploration drill programs and induced polarization surveys in the permitted area of disturbance of an operating, producing mineral or coal mine; or
  3. Extending the term of mineral or coal exploration activities by up to two years if you hold a mineral or coal Notice of Work which has at least 30 days before its expiration date. The term can only be extended once.
If there are no concerns raised by a Mines Inspector within the 30 day notification period, you may begin the activity on or after the start date indicated in your notification.

There is no fee for this notification.

Responsibilities

Notification must be submitted at least 30 days prior to undertaking an Induced Polarization Survey or Exploration Drill Program. Permit term extensions must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the end date of the associated Notice of Work.

What you need to apply

You will need the following information and documents to fill out the notification:

For Induced Polarization Surveys Using Exposed Electrodes

  • Your permit number,
  • Start and end dates,
  • Total line kilometers,
  • Description of planned activities,
  • Geo reference files:
    • Geo reference files are required. These files must outline as a polygon the area within which the activity will occur and the specific location of the activities within that area. "Shape files" are the preferred format, and any format of geo referenced file submitted must be in NAD 83 Albers Projection.

For Exploration Drill Programs and Induced Polarization Surveys in the Permitted Area of Disturbance of an Operating, Producing Mineral or Coal Mine

  • Your permit number,
  • Start and end dates,
  • Proposed activities (Exploration Drill Program and/or Induced Polarization Survey),
  • Total line kilometers for an Induced Polarization Survey,
  • Total number of drill sites for an Exploration Drill Program,
  • Description of planned activities, and
  • Geo reference files:
    • Geo reference files are required. These files must outline as a polygon the area within which the activity will occur and the specific location of the activities within that area. "Shape files" are the preferred format, and any format of geo referenced file submitted must be in NAD 83 Albers Projection.

For Extending the Term of Mineral or Coal Exploration Activities by up to Two Years

  • Your permit number,
  • New end date, and
  • Reason for extension.

What happens after you apply

  1. FrontCounter BC staff will review your notification to make sure that it is complete. If there are any questions or missing information they will contact you.
  2. They will also contact you within the 30 day notification period if the deemed authorization is not valid or if a permit amendment is required.
  3. If you do not hear from an inspector during the 30 day notification period, then you may begin the activity on or after the start date you indicated on your notification.
